Gecko Villa Reviews: Tripadvisor and more

Thailand villa for holiday rental

Recommendations of our Villa in Thailand

Many thanks to all of our guests who have taken the time either to write in the guest book we maintain at the villa, or to add their own reviews of their stay at our villa on Tripadvisor, where Gecko Villa is listed under the category of Specialty Lodgings in Udon Thani province (see below for Tripadvisor reviews on Gecko Villa.) Feedback from our guests is the most helpful asset in striving to ensure that everyone enjoys a perfect holiday at the villa!

Thanks too to those partners around the world with whom we work closely - repeat bookings from you are the best indicator of your own continued support.

Gecko Villa was featured in both Voyeur, Virgin Australia's inflight magazine and In Esquire Malaysia in 2015, where the writer noted that Viewing Isaan by skylab, rather than from the back of a car, brings home the strong sense of community that still exists in this remote corner of Thailand... there’s something remarkably appealing about witnessing the simple life of Isaan.

Gecko Villa guestbook reviews

The following are just a few of the reviews and comments on Gecko Villa, taken from the guest book at the villa. We'd like to thank the writers of these and all the additional comments in our guestbook for their very kind notes!

We can't thank Ten, Ann and Euang enough for their amazing hospitality and the most delicious food. We feel so lucky to be able to stay with this wonderful family and in such luxurious surroundings. This really was a 40th birthday party to remember with a feast for a king laid on . Thank you so much - we'll spread the word.

We enjoyed our stay in Isan very much - especially because of your hospitality. We were able to experience the true nature of Northeast Thailand by getting to know your family and having you share your time with us. You provided great food, joyous birds, butterflies, flowers, the boat trip on the lake, the motorbikes, pool and Ban Chiang and the markets as well as seeing the school all made for a relaxing and informative experience. Please come visit us in the United States.

Rest relaxation and good food is what we cane for and we certainly got that in abundance. Love it here and will certainly come back. Thank you ten, Euang and all your helpers for making our stay so enjoyable.

We have enjoyed every moment of our stay in this charming and lovely house. Enjoyed the trips with ten to the lake and Ban Chiang as well as riding the bikes and the tuk tuk in the vicinity of the house. Thank you to the whole family for your good service and hospitality.

What a wonderful time we had here, we LOVED the food. Ten, Euang and Ann could open a restaurant! And when we dragged ourselves away from the pool, the visit to the school was fabulous. Ten brought us round in the tuk tuk and the guys visited all the local villages on the motorbike. After 3 months solid travel we loved the whole setup here.

The house is great, the meals were absolutely delicious every day and the warm, friendly and caring welcome has been greatly appreciated by the whole family. We are looking forward to trying Green gecko now!. And we will recommend the place to friends.

A very special holiday for us all - total relaxation and peace, precious time for the children with their grandparents, , wonderful food and fantastic hospitality from Ten and his family. Unforgettable! we shall spread the word about Gecko in Hong Kong.

What a find - a beautiful Thai villa in the heart of Isaan all to ourselves - except for the wonderful staff who cooked our traditional Thai meals and taught us some useful Thai words. Loved the warm weather and the pool - a pleasant change from the chill of Victorian winter.

Merci à Ten, ainsi qu'à sa famille, pour son accueil, sa disponibilité et son attention. Tout était parfait! A une prochaine fois...

We spent one full month here and enjoyed every day of it. The place is quiet and beautiful, and it is great to bike around the surrounding villages. Thanks for your hospitality, good food and the way you took care of us!

One of the most restful places I've ever been - and perhaps the best food I've had in ten years of living in Thailand. Fantastic!
Living in Bangkok

I know that it is quite a while since we came over and stayed at Gecko Villa but I did want to write (eventually!) and let you know how much we enjoyed ourselves. We thought that the villa was beautiful and that Ten and Euang (and everyone else) were superb – their hospitality really made our stay even better than we ever thought it would be, the effort they put into the cooking – especially in how they provided meals for a 4 year old Norfolk boy – was greatly appreciated by all of us! The surroundings in which the villa is set are just amazing, the pool was brilliant (especially as it was so unbelievably hot during our trip!), and the villa itself was very comfortable.
We had a truly memorable holiday and even now our son talks to anyone and everyone about Thailand, the villa and what a fantastic time he had. Our most sincere thanks and best wishes are reserved for everyone at the villa – it is a remarkable place with remarkable people and we hope to be able to return one day soon.

Gecko Villa in the international press

www.smarttravelasia.com
For a back-to-nature away-from-it-all escape in Thailand's Northeastern province of Isaan (bordering Laos), the Gecko Villa, set amidst rice fields and cattle farms, is an option. Located in Amphoer Prajak Sinlapakom, in Udon Thani, the resort is very much in the local Thai style, constructed on stilts, but with air-conditioned bedrooms and living rooms and a private swimming pool finished in hand-made tile. There are no set menus at this three-villa resort. Guests state their craving and the chefs will prepare it. Learn Thai cooking, visit temples on a bicycle, shop for handicraft or ride a water buffalo.

Some wonderful memories, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend

First ...... THANK YOU . If it was not for your web site I would never have found this accommodation! How can I describe this accommodation? I don't know if I can, but here goes........ Hazel and I spent 6 nights there at the end of February 2006. This is almost the peak of the hottest and driest part of the year.

This accommodation is adequately described on its web site. What it cannot describe and what I may have trouble in describing is the peace, tranquility and blissful surroundings. At the time I called it "the Garden of Eden", "Nirvana" and "Heaven on Earth". We both lead very busy working lives and this accommodation was the perfect location to chill out, wind down and re-charge the batteries.

I know I am not doing the place justice as I struggle to find the right words, but this is so different from anywhere I else I have been. Ten and Euang, they run the property, will call each day at meal times and cook the most wonderful local food . They are more than happy to introduce you to local life or leave you to your own devices. The local people were very friendly and never stopped smiling.

1. What was the most memorable or exciting part of your holiday?
On the last day it was my 57th birthday... Ten arranged for some of his family and friends to come to the accommodation and we had a birthday party - Thai Style - we were treated like long lost friends. It was fantastic! (understatement!). For any doubting Thomas' out there .. NO, I didn't get a bill.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Take lots to read, or DVD's or CD's. A pair of binoculars would have been good to watch the wildlife! (Webmaster note: we now have a pair of binoculars - thanks for the recommendation!)

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
We met a lot of local people during out visit, they are financially very poor. But the right contact with outsiders will hopefully encourage the children to learn at school and widen their horizons. These people have a lot to offer and we have a lot to learn from them.

What to do: rural retreats
For something completely different, go rural. Udon Thani can be reached by air from Bangkok - it's near the Lao border and the countryside around it is famous for its endless rice paddies. Gecko Villa is a B&B-style lodge right in the middle of the country - perfect if you want to observe the local way of life and clomp around in wellies for a bit. Alternatively, head for one of the northern hill tribes - any Thai travel agent will be able to assist you with booking information.

Bangkok Post
"Surrounded by rice fields and small rural villages where traditions are strong and the rhythm of village life has remained largely unchanged...Gecko Villa offers a chance to live the Thai way of life"
